The NEXT Hybrid DHW heater from A.O. Smith combines features of tankless and conventional water heater technologies. It uses a tankless “heat engine” and a small storage tank to deliver a continuous flow of hot water for long draws at 90 percent thermal efficiency, delivering about twice the hot water of a conventional 50-gallon storage tank. It fits the same footprint as a conventional tank, but a condensation drain is required.
