B.C. seeking input on paid sick leave entitlement

British Columbia is creating a new paid sick leave which will come into effect at the beginning of 2022.

Victoria, British Columbia—New and improved updates are coming to British Columbia regarding paid sick leave. The B.C. government is developing paid sick leave for employees to accommodate staying home when sick or injured, without losing wages, for a set number of days each year. The new model will come into effect on Jan. 1, 2022.

Phase one of the plan began back in August and ran through September. The B.C. government used surveys that sought input from workers and employers on their current paid sick leave programs and on what they would like to see in a province-wide model.

The second phase of the plan is now open. Following the results of the survey, the B.C government is inviting all workers, employers, and other interested parties to review and provide feedback on possible options for the new paid sick leave entitlement. Feedback is being collected until Oct. 25th and an update regarding the feedback received will be announced in November.
