Construction furnace heat ban

0
By Plumbing & HVAC Staff on February 22, 2017 News

Manufacturers will prohibit the use of residential forced air furnaces during new home construction beginning May. 1. The ban was originally expected to begin Sept. 1, 2016, but manufacturers moved the date back after meeting with home builders on a number of occasions, reports the Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Institute of Canada (HRAI).

Manufacturers have also agreed to standardized wording that will be included in their manufacturers’ installation instructions as follows:

“Gas furnaces manufactured on or after May 1, 2017 are not permitted to be used in Canada for heating of buildings or structures under construction.”

HRAI also reports that all of its member manufacturers have confirmed that support for this position. Several companies have already made revisions to their installation instructions.
