Palatine, Illinois—Dog videos, laughing babies, and people injuring themselves are all things that can be found on the internet. Somedays too much of our time can be found scrolling through timelines.
For building construction companies, Facebook is the leading platform of choice, according to research conducted by Accountability Information Management (AIM). As part of its Snapshot Research initiative, architects, interior designers, engineers and facility managers were surveyed online in January 2021. Overall, there were 153 completed surveys.
“Though this research was conducted in January 2021, when COVID-19 was actively disrupting the world and vaccines were just ramping up, it shows that it is important for product manufacturers to be active and maintain a presence in all the main social media channels,” said Patty Fleider, director of research at AIM.
The results highlighted that out of all the social media channels preferred by companies, 45 per cent chose Facebook, followed by Instagram at 26 per cent, and LinkedIn at 25 per cent. While Facebook may be the most dominant with companies/firms in the building construction industry, the top three can vary depending on the line of work.
For example, more facility professionals indicated their company preferred Twitter. Additionally, interior design professionals are more likely to use Facebook and Instagram verses other social media channels.
The study also highlighted that most building professionals (82 per cent) indicated their companies are involved with some type of social media, and approximately 20 per cent were actively engaged with more than one social media channel. Fleider even added that “professionals turned to these channels even more than they did pre-COVID-19.”
