Peterborough, ON—Fleming College will be offering a new apprenticeship program this fall semester. Applications are currently being accepted for their new plumbing apprenticeship program with classes starting August 30, 2021 at their Sutherland Campus in Peterborough, Ont.
“Plumbers are highly valued tradespeople and an integral part of any construction and maintenance team,” reports Fleming College in a press release. “Plumbing is an in-demand career in a growing field with opportunities available in the region and across the province. The plumber apprenticeship allows individuals to pursue a career as a plumber, pipefitter, contractor or supervisor in residential, commercial or industrial settings.”
In addition to the in-the-field experience gained through work, the program involves three in-school sessions of 240 hours each. This includes:
- Basic: Learn about the tools and piping methods, plumbing systems, workplace safety, rigging and hoisting, and welding.
- Intermediate: Train in plumbing systems, drain-waste-vent piping, and trade calculations and documentation.
- Advanced: Consolidate and build on skills learned through in-depth training in plumbing systems, process piping systems and trade documentation.
Training sessions will be held at the college’s Kawartha Trades and Technology Centre. Eligibility for the program will be determined by the Ministry of Labour, Training and Skills Development. Applicants must be registered apprentices with the ministry, which includes being sponsored by an eligible employer.
