Surrey, B.C. — FortisBC has received approval from the British Columbia Utilities Commission to maintain the cost of gas rates for all of its customers until Sept. 30. Therefore, FortisBC customers will not see a change in the cost of gas rates on their bills. Rates are reviewed by FortisBC and the British Columbia Utilities Commission each quarter to make sure they accurately reflect the cost of purchasing the commodity for customers.

As of July 1, there will be no change to the current approved cost of gas rate of $2.844 per gigajoule for mainland and Vancouver Island, Whistler, and Revelstoke. Fort Nelson customers will not see a change to their current approved cost of gas rate currently set to $2.999 per gigajoule.

FortisBC acquires natural gas at market-based prices and factors like supply and demand, and economic conditions affect the price of natural gas in North America. They are a regulated utility company, which serves around 182,012 direct and indirect customers in B.C.’s south interior.
