HRAI and ESCO to create new program

By Plumbing & HVAC Staff on January 25, 2022 News

Mississauga, ON — In a joint effort, the Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Institute of Canada (HRAI) and the ESCO Institute have agreed to partner and develop a Low GWP Refrigerant Safety Program for the Canadian market, which plans to launch in June 2022. The program will help ensure that the industry is properly trained on proper handling, safety procedures, and the applicable standards and codes.

Due to the fact that many low GWP Refrigerants are mildly flammable, HRAI and ESCO want to make sure that those in the industry are made aware of the additional safety precautions and protocols that must be followed. The program can be accessed online, and it will also include an assessment component.

Consulted industry stakeholders agreed that the training should be mandatory for tenured technicians and uniforms across all provinces. HRAI has already begun discussions with provincial regulators to make mandatory training a requirement.
