Ottawa, ON — Health Canada is recalling Lochinvar’s Epic brand of residential condensing boilers, combi boilers, and packaged systems due to a risk of carbon monoxide poisoning.
As per Health Canada, “The boiler’s flue collector can crack if exposed to a high impact event in the burner chamber, which can allow the boiler to emit carbon monoxide, posing a risk of carbon monoxide poisoning.”
Model numbers include: EFC110L; EFC110N; EFC150L; EFC150N; EFC199L; EFC 199N; EPB080N; EPB110L; EPB110N; EPB150L; EPB150N; EPB199N; EPC110L; EPC110N; EPC150L; EPC150N; EPC199L; EPC199N.
The serial numbers range from 125325485 to 134830284.
Lochinvar adds that as of October 2023, the company has received two reports of broken flue collectors in Canada and no reports of injuries. In the United States, the company has received eight reports of broken flue collectors and no reports of injuries.
Customers are advised to contact the installer or a qualified service technician to schedule a free repair. The repair will consist of installing a steel plate, which will be affixed to the base of the flue collector to act as a reinforcement.
