Ottawa, ON — The Canadian Standards Group (CSA Group) is seeking public review for the new edition of the CSA B52 mechanical refrigeration code. Public comments will be accepted until Aug.4.
The purpose of standard B52 is to minimize the risk of personal injury by providing minimum requirements for the design, construction, installation, inspection, and maintenance of mechanical refrigeration systems and volatile direct refrigeration systems, as stated by the CSA in a release.
Standard B52 will apply to all refrigeration systems installed subsequent to its adoption. This includes refrigeration systems installed in new or existing premises. It also applies to all premises, including the machinery room, if required, in which a refrigeration system is to be installed. In addition, the new code applies to refrigeration systems that undergo a substitution of refrigerant and parts of a refrigeration system that are replaced in, or added to, systems installed prior to its adoption.
This standard will not apply to the use of water or air as a refrigerant; bulk-storage gas tanks not permanently connected to a refrigeration system; and refrigeration systems installed on railroad cars, motor vehicles, motor-drawn vehicles, aircraft, or ships.
