New mid-size van boosts Mercedes sales

Mercedes-Benz continues to increase its market share in the Canadian cargo van market. The company sold 580 Sprinter and Metris cargo and passenger vans in July, an increase of 24 percent over the same month in 2016, reported Mercedes-Benz Canada. Year-to-date, the company has sold 3,802 units for a growth of 11.6 over 2016.

The company attributes the improved results largely to strong sales of the Metris mid-size van. “Sales have been exceeding targets and are on the rise,” reported Mercedes spokesperson Lindsay Archibald, noting that Metris sales more than doubled since July 2016 and were up 31.5 percent year to date.

The Metris is similar in size and configuration to the GM Astro and Safari mid-sized vans that have been much missed by mechanical contractors since being discontinued in 2005.
