Edmonton, Alta — An additional 5,500 apprenticeship training spaces are set to open at the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology’s (NAIT) main campus in 2026.

The Advanced Skills Centre will be a 625,000-square-foot facility located on NAIT’s main campus that will bring together 29 programs in job-site-inspired training spaces across high-demand fields like construction, transportation, manufacturing, and energy.

“Skilled trades offer Albertans the chance to build a good life, create something lasting and help shape the future of this province. As Alberta grows, so does the demand for skilled workers. This investment will help train the next generation of trades professionals our economy needs to keep building and growing,” said Danielle Smith, premier of Alberta.

Budget 2026 features an investment in the future of Alberta’s skilled workforce. The budget will invest $384 million in the new training centre.

Each year, 40,000 students study at NAIT, with more than 30 per cent in apprenticeship and skilled trades programs. The Advanced Skills Centre is expected to open in Fall 2030.
