Ottawa, ON — ASHRAE announced the recipients of its society chapter scholarships, totalling $168,000 for the 2022-2023 academic year. Rex Camit, building systems engineering at Conestoga College in Kitchener, Ont, is the recipient of the Ottawa Valley Chapter Scholarship, which provides a one-year scholarship worth $3,000.

Through its scholarship program, ASHRAE seeks to motivate students and prospective students worldwide to pursue an engineering or technology career in the HVAC/R field, part of the science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) industry.

“ASHRAE is committed to providing a channel for students to pursue higher education and attain the technical and academic skills needed to grow a skilled global industry workforce,” said Farooq Mehboob, ASHRAE’S 2022-2023 president. “Congratulations to this year’s scholarship recipients. The future of our built environment is in good hands.”

The Ottawa Valley Chapter Scholarship is available to a qualified undergraduate mechanical, architectural, sustainability, or building science engineering or engineering technology student enrolled full-time at a post-secondary educational institution within the ASHRAE Ottawa Valley Chapter or Canada’s National Capital Region, which includes Carleton University, the University of Ottawa, Algonquin College, and Cegep de L’Outaouais.

The Ottawa scholarship, along with seven others, is a one-year scholarship worth $3,000. Additionally, 12 scholarships provide a one-year $5,000 scholarship, while the remaining three are worth $10,000.

Applications are now being accepted for the 2023-24 undergraduate engineering, technology, regional/chapter, and university-specific scholarships. The application deadline is Dec. 1.
