Ontario became the first province to adopt prompt payment legislation when it passed Bill 142, the Construction Lien Amendment Act, on Dec. 5.

It is designed to ensure that sub-contractors get paid in a timely manner on construction projects. The National Trade Contractors Coalition of Canada (NTCCC) is working for similar changes at the federal level.
