Charlottetown, PEI — Prince Edward Island has placed its Residential Home Heating Program (RHHP) on indefinite pause. This decision was announced on March 31.
The RRHP provided eligible homeowners with financing to upgrade their heating systems with eligible energy-efficient equipment. Funding was available to individuals earning up to $45,000 per year and families earning up to $60,000.
Eligible applicants would receive a repayable loan of up to $30,000, towards 100 per cent of eligible invoiced costs for the purchase and installation of program-eligible energy-efficient equipment.
Eligible equipment included air-source heat pumps that meet the Northeast Energy Efficiency Partnerships cold climate air-source heat pump specification, as well as Energy Star-certified heating equipment, such as geothermal heat pumps, water-heating devices, biomass heating devices, and other energy-saving products.
In 2024, the program received $500,000 in applications within the first 10 days of the new year.
The program announced that it will continue to support approved applicants, and all existing loans will remain in place under their current terms. There is no official timeline for the return of the RHHP.
