British Columbia − Health Canada reported a recall notice of certain gas water heaters distributed by Usines Giant Factories Inc. between March 11th, 2021, and March 24th, 2021.
The issue is that Usines Giant Factories Inc. has discovered that specific models of its atmospheric gas water heaters were manufactured using the incorrect model of flue reducer, which may pose a carbon monoxide leak hazard.
The gas water heater models being recalled are UG60-50MF1-N2U, Serial numbers A 9795627 and A 9795628. UG50-40LF-N2U, Serial numbers A 9795911, A 9795923, A 9801980, and A 9802004.
The company reports that 533 units of the affected product were distributed in Canada. Giant has located and corrected 527 of those units but could not locate the remaining six uncorrected units.
If there are any consumers in possession of one of the recalled products, Health Canada states that they should turn off the water heater and contact Giant to make arrangements for a qualified technician to replace the incorrect flue reducer.
As of June 28, 2021, the company has received no reports of incidents or injuries in Canada, according to Health Canada.
