There is a bit of a mix of opinions in the construction sector when it comes to mandatory vaccinations in the workplace.

Kelowna, BC — There is a difference of opinion between those already in the trades and those entering the trades on whether or not the construction industry should have mandatory vaccinations. This was the key takeaway from two separate surveys that were sent out by the Southern Interior Construction Association (SICA). The surveys were sent out to gauge local industry opinions on mandatory vaccination policies.

The first of the two surveys were sent to SICA members which received 227 responses—56.6 per cent answered they supported mandatory vaccination, while 43.4 per cent opposed. The second survey was sent to students which received 194 responses—70.6 per cent opposed mandatory vaccinations in the construction industry, while 29.4 per cent supported them.

Both surveys were sent out to people that have been through SICA’S Training Centre since August 2020 and utilized the text system for COVID-19 screening. A separate emailed survey was also sent to the SICA mailing list.
