Charlotte, North Carolina— Two Canadians were awarded scholarships by the International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials (IAPMO) for competing in its International Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Foundation (IWSH) Scholarship Essay Competition.
First place was awarded to Chantal Cheung of Queen’s University in Kingston, ON, and Sofia Lang of McGill University in Montreal, QC, who was one of three runner-ups. Cheung receives a $2,000 scholarship and a one-year IAPMO student membership. Lang will receive a $1,000 scholarship.
The essay competition was designed to highlight the importance of the plumbing industry in our everyday lives and to introduce students to the global impact of IWSH projects. All the essays submitted will be published in IAPMO’s official magazine and on the IWSH website.
Cheung and Lang were recognized during IAMPO’s 93rd Annual Education and Business Conference, which ran from Sept. 11 to 15 in Charlotte, North Carolina.
The 2023 competition process will begin in Spring 2023 when the latest essay topic is announced.
