Vancouver show draws a crowd

A busy construction climate on the West Coast may have dampened attendance slightly at Western Canada’s largest industry-specific trade show for plumbing, HVAC/R and water treatment, but CIPHEX West drew industry people from throughout British Columbia along with a healthy representation from Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba, report organizers.

“A busy construction climate in B.C. meant that overall attendance was down slightly compared to the past two show’s record turnouts; however the quality (measured by visitors’ buying and decision-making power) was up,” reported Elizabeth McCullough, show manager for the Canadian Institute of Plumbing and Heating (CIPH), which organized the event at the Vancouver Convention Centre Nov. 2-3.

Over 200 manufacturers displayed their products. Total visitor attendance was just over 1,600, not including exhibitors. The BUILDEX Express builders show, which also took place at the Convention Centre, brought in just over 100 additional attendees.

The Second Canadian Hydronics Conference, held in conjunction with CIPHEX West, attracted more than 200 attendees, coming from British Columbia and Alberta. The next edition of the Canadian Hydronics Conference will take place in October, 2017, with the CIPHEX Roadshow in Edmonton.

The New Product Competition, in which a panel of industry experts chooses the best new products, had 64 entries by manufacturers. The winners were:

Air Conditioning and Refrigeration – The Mini moveable split air conditioner by Sunrise Tradex Corporation.

Alternative Energy (solar, geothermal, etc.) – The Vitosol FM solar collector by Viessmann.

Controls & Instrumentation – WiFi 670 snow melting control by tekmar Control Systems.

Heating & Ventilation: Combi furnace (DHW/forced air) by NTI.

Hydronic Heating: Silent Fin – Heating Edge 3 – by Smith’s Environmental (Hyline Sales).

Kitchen & Bath: Adjustable angle bath waste and overflow, Canplas Industries.

Plumbing & Piping: Clean Seal 2 by Oatey Canada.

The next CIPHEX West trade show will take place in Calgary during November, 2018. For more information, please visit www.ciphexwest.ca.
