Victoria, British Columbia—The CleanBC Building Innovation Fund (CBBIF) has allocated $8 million for 2020/2021. Applications are now being accepted and will close on Jan. 10. Applicants that submit their full application before Dec. 15 will have the opportunity to receive feedback and revise their application prior to the final deadline.
CBBIF provides funding for projects that accelerate the availability and affordability of low-carbon building solutions. This includes building components and designs, new construction methods, low-carbon HVAC systems, and digital technology solutions.
Funding will also help businesses affected by the pandemic to keep them going, maintain jobs, and offset revenue loss.
The CBBIF provides funding to promote building sector innovation in four separate streams:
- Material, component, and system manufacturing—$300,000 to $1 million
- Digital technology solutions—$200,000 to $500,000
- Demonstration projects—up to $250,000
- Open call for innovations—$250,000 to $500,000
To be eligible, a project must advance some type of innovation in building designs, construction practices, systems, materials, products, or technologies that have a technology “readiness level” of six or higher and are energy efficient, reduce carbon emissions for building operations, and/or have low embodied carbon (example: mass timber).
CBBIF is a collaboration between the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing, and the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change Strategy. The fund is a part the provincial government’s climate action plan.
