Ottawa, ON – Tax season is upon us and the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) is reminding businesses to file their GST/HST returns electronically.
For reporting periods beginning after Dec. 31, 2023, all GST/HST registrants must file returns electronically except for charities and selected listed financial institutions (SLFIs).
A $100 penalty will be given for the first submitted paper return and a $250 penalty for each subsequent non-electronic return.
To help companies adjust to the change, the CRA has waived penalties for businesses filing GST/HST monthly and quarterly by paper until April 2024.
