Ottawa, ON — Health Canada has put out a recall on Midea’s U window air conditioner due to a potential mould growth risk. Specifically, the issue pertains to pooled water in the air conditioners not draining quickly enough.
The affected models include the 8,000, 10,000, and 12,000 BTU sizes and were sold under brand names such as Midea, Danby, Frigidaire, Insignia, and Perfect Aire. The brand name will be printed on the unit, while the model number can be found on the label located on the front side of the unit.
The affected model numbers include:
- Danby: DAC080B6IWDB-6, DAC080B7IWDB-6, and DAC100B6IWDB-6.
- Frigidaire: GHWQ085WD1, GHWQ105WD1, and GHWQ125WD1.
- Insignia: NS-AC8WU3-C
- Midea: MAW08V1QWT, MAW10V1QWT, MW08MSWBA5RCM, MW10MSWBA4RCM, MW10MSWBA5RCM, MW10MSWBA6RCM, MW12MSWBA5RCM, and MW12MSWBA6RCM.
- Perfect Aire: 1PACU10000C.
Roughly 45,900 units were sold in Canada, and 1.7 million were sold in the USA between March 2020 and May 2025. As of June 3, Midea received five reports of mould in the units in Canada, with no reports of symptoms. In the USA, there have been 152 reports of mould in the units, including 17 reports of consumers experiencing symptoms such as respiratory infections, allergic reactions, coughing, sneezing and/or sore throats from mould exposure.
Health Canada adds that customers with an affected unit should contact Midea for a free repair or full/prorated refund.
