Toronto, ON — The Technical Standards and Safety Authority (TSSA) is accepting nominations for its 2026 Safety Awards. Nominations are open until June 1.

The awards celebrate outstanding leadership in Ontario’s public safety in TSSA’s regulated sectors: fuels, boilers and pressure vessels, and operating engineers; elevating and amusement devices, and ski lifts.

Individuals and organizations can be nominated. There are two categories for these awards: impact and legacy.

The Impact Awards recognize notable contributions, initiatives or projects that deliver positive safety outcomes and go above and beyond regulatory compliance. The winner of the 2025 award was Jamie Kovacs, executive director of the Fire Marshal’s Public Fire Safety Council.

Kavacs won the award for his dedication to advancing fire safety and prevention.

The Legacy Awards honour individuals or organizations with a longstanding commitment to safety and a demonstrated history of safety impact. The Canadian Elevator Industry Educational Program (CEIEP) won the 2025 award.

The CEIEP won the award for its safety leadership and for delivering safety education and apprenticeship programs for elevator constructors and mechanics. The CEIEP has been running since 1967.

Winners will be announced during the TSSA’s public meeting in the fall.
