Toronto, ON — The Technical Standards and Safety Authority (TSSA) is introducing two new late payment and inspection appointment cancellation fees.
Effective Nov. 4, these fees aim to encourage timely compliance, reduce regulatory costs, and optimize resource deployment for inspections.
TSSA adds that timely authorization renewals by individuals and organizations are essential to ensuring safety. As a result, the new late payment fees are intended to encourage on-time authorization renewals and reduce regulatory costs.
The late payment fee will be charged on a flat basis and due only when invoices are paid after the due date. Individuals will pay a late payment fee of $50 per expired renewal, and organizations will pay a late payment fee of $75 per expired renewal.
To reduce the occurrence of short-notice cancellations, TSSA is introducing an inspection appointment cancellation fee. The fee will apply to cancellations initiated by customers with two business days or less notice. The cost for this offence will be a one-hour labour rate.
The cancellation fee will also apply if a scheduled inspection can’t be completed because a customer is not ready for the inspection. This offence costs the full inspection fee.
