Brampton, ON – Two Ontario cities receive an A+ on their report card this year for exceeding 2023 housing targets. Brampton broke ground on a total of 7,028 new housing units last year, meanwhile, Belleville broke ground on 644 new housing units.
The Ontario government set a target of 110,000 new homes in 2023 and was just shy of reaching it. This includes housing starts, additional residential units, and new and upgraded long-term care beds. Additionally, the province broke ground on 18,992 rental starts in 2023.
Additionally, Ontario saw nearly 10,000 additional residential units created in 2023 – which includes changing single-family homes into multi-unit residences or converting commercial office space into residential use – and nearly 10,000 new and upgraded long-term care beds.
For reaching its city’s goals, Brampton and Belleville received $22.5 million and $1.24 million, respectively, via the Building Faster Fund.
