Ottawa, ON — Across Canada, the overall investment in building construction declined 0.5 per cent to $21.4 billion in November, reports Statistics Canada.
Investment in residential building construction declined 1.1 per cent in November, with decreases seen in four provinces and three territories. Ontario saw the largest decline, down $22.78 million, while Quebec, up $84.1 million led the gains recorded in the remaining provinces.
Additionally, investment in multi-unit dwelling construction was down 4.8 per cent to $7.5 billion in November. However, single-family home construction investment rose 2.9 per cent to $7.3 billion in November.
In the non-residential sector, the overall investment in construction increased 1.1 per cent to a record-high $6.6 billion in November. This marked the fourth consecutive monthly increase.
Specifically, the industrial component increased 2.2 per cent, commercial construction investment increased 0.4 per cent, and institutional construction investment rose 1.5 per cent.
