The industry is just one week away from attending the Mechanical Contractors Association of Canada (MCAC) national conference. The 81st annual national conference will be held at the Halifax Marriott Harbourfront Hotel in Halifax, N.S, from Sept. 28 to Oct. 1.

The theme for this year’s conference is “Reconnect,” and participants will be able to network and attend both educational seminars and social events. On day one of the conference, attendees will be able to dust off their drivers and participate in the annual golf tournament, which will be hosted at the Brunello Golf Course this year.

Educational opportunities
Attendees present during the three-day conference will be provided with many seminar options. Topics that will be covered include presentations on labour force and contractual issues, the industry’s role in the transition to net-zero, technology solutions for service contractors, and a panel session focused on the recruitment and retention of the next generation.

Some speakers featured during sessions include Annik Forrestal (McMillan), Bob Collins (Buildforce Canada), Corey Diamond (Efficiency Canada) and Emily Arrowsmith (Canadian Apprenticeship Forum). Keynote speakers will also include James Duthie of TSN and comedian Shaun Majumder.

There will also be meetings featuring board of directors, associates, and contractors; these include a women in the mechanical construction committee meeting and an MCA 2022/23 and CIPH board of directors meeting.

Let’s get social
In addition to the golf tournament, the conference will host numerous social events planned for guests. Opening and closing night receptions will be held on all three days, a first-timers’ reception will be held on the first day and an innovation tradeshow. Guests will also be able to explore Halifax with a tour of Peggy’s Cove and MCA’s Reconnecting event at Pier 21, which will feature maritime hospitality like singing, dancing, and lobsters.

The conference will also host an awards ceremony for its national awards. Winners of the Life Membership, Lloyd MacLean Memorial, Gary Greig Memorial, and Doug Crawford Memorial awards will be honoured and highlighted. The 2023 annual conference will be held in Napa Valley, California, at the Silverado Hotel from Oct. 18 to 22.
